| Hubs axle width | jimmclellan Dec 2, 2002 9:59 AM | | Have an AMP B4F4 and upgrading to disc brakes...purchased a set of American Classic wheelsets and I notice that when I place hub axle in dropout there a a 2mm gap between (on each side)end of axle and outside of dropout. is this a problem. Their axle is 135 mm, i notice chris king also make a 135 mm axle put they also have a 140mm.The front seems to be same as CK @100mm. |
| 135mm rear is standard for MTBs...something ain't right. | Bianchi4Me Dec 2, 2002 9:26 PM | | 99.99% percent of MTBs have a 135mm "lock-nut" spacing between the drop-outs. There are a handful of oddball exceptions like tandems, dedicated downhill "race" bikes, etc., that have different spacing. Seems odd that your AMP would be different from 135mm, but I claim no expertise in that brand.
First thing I'd want to do is just measure between the dropouts on your frame with a ruler (or caliper if you got one) and see how wide that sucker really is. What's the ruler say?
You noted that you were "upgrading" to discs. What type of hub did you have in there before? If it was a garden variety (Shimano) hub, odds are pretty darn good it was 135mm spacing. If it fits snug and the Am Classic is 4mm loose, then we are going to want to measure those hubs too. |
