| those new fangled disc hub adaptors....(brake x post) | fireboy Dec 4, 2002 10:56 AM | | whussup with the new disc adaptors that are out there by First Principles??? they are supposed to transform non-disc hubs into disc hubs...seems they go over the hub flange and then the spokes lace through them. Just wondering if anyone else sees this as putting ALOT of stress on the spoke heads. When the brakes are applied, wouldn't there be shear forces between the hub flange and the adaptor...resulting in the possibility of popping heads of the spokes???
...go ahead...discuss amongst yourselves...I am all vaclempt (sp)...

| The adaptor is bolted to the hub flange | shiggy Dec 4, 2002 11:25 AM | | and should be very solid.
My question is, why bother? the adaptor costs more than a decent (Deore/XT or front Onyx) disc hub, adds weight and you still need to replace half the spokes. I would rather build a new wheel and sell the old to offset the cost. |
| I second that.... | fireboy Dec 4, 2002 11:54 AM | | ...I was thinking weight and trouble as you were...
but the shear thing just stuck out for some reason, as well...

It seems that if it costs as much as a disc hub, and you have to relace your wheel to install it, why not just relace your wheel with a disc hub and not do some crazy hack that may or may not be solid. personally, I would hate to walk 15 miles back to the car with no front brake if it failed on a big ride.
Sounds kinda silly to me. Can somebody tell me the updisde of this thing? Maybe it would be good if there is a super sweet hub that you would like to continue to use for some reason. |
| Its not a new idea, Amp rear discs have used a similar flange... | DeeEight Dec 7, 2002 4:07 AM | | for converting shimano parallax rear hubs (any model except XTR - the flange profile is different on them) since 1994. |
