| 24 in 32 wheel | NCN Dec 6, 2002 6:02 AM | | Just for fun, I drew up a wheel using 16 drive side spokes laced 3x and 8 non-drive laced radially, using a 32-hole hub and a 24-hole rim. Have to find a rim with no spoke hole offset, though. If I get inspired, might be a good road wheel project for this winter. Comments?

Either way, your gonna need a stiff rim. With a 24 hole rim the NDS tension is all localized to 8 points on the circumference, opfset only by rather far-spaced drice side spokes, which and could cause waviness unless if the rim is not laterally stiff enough. Using a 48 hole rim would create a "spoke triplet" effect to reduce that, but then you'd need it to be vertically stif enough to resist high / low spots.
Nice looking lacing, though. The Eurus is basically the same thing with 14+7 spokes, and obviiously with the closer spacing of the spoke triplets. |
