| Spoke gauge for 240 / x3.1 disc wheel set | calgracer Dec 7, 2002 2:55 PM | | I am going to build up a set of wheels using Hugi 240 disc hubs with x3.1 disc rims and I would like to know how light I can go with the spokes and nipples. I am 180-185lbs, I ride a fs, and I race vet. expert, and I would consider myself to be quite easy on wheels. |

For spokes on disc wheels, I would not go lighter than 14/15s unless you're building up a pure race wheelset. Well, I take that back -- you could go lighter on the non-disc side of the front wheel if you like. However, since you're going tubeless, apparently the ultimate in light weight is not your goal so why compromise on the durability.
Wheelsmith's spokes are lighter than the equivalent DTs. Mike Garcia has a nice spoke data page at his site www.oddsandendos.com.

| Actually, light weight is my goal | calgracer Dec 7, 2002 5:51 PM | | I want to be able to run latex in my race tires as opposed to tubes. I understand that the tubeless rims are a better platform for this than conventional rims with rim strips and I would like to build as light a wheelset as possible. |

From a weight standpoint there's very little advantage by the time you figure in the weight of those rims (over 500g ea). So if you're not having problems with flatting in races then it may not be worth it.
