Dec 8, 2002 9:39 AM | | I am about to build a pair of 700c wheels for a 29" mountain bike. The hubs that I like are only available in 32 hole so I want to go that route. Many people that ride 29er MTBs ride 36 hole wheels for lateral stiffness. So, how much stiffer will a four cross wheel be versus a three cross wheel? It seems to me that I can build a wheel that is slightly lighter than a 36 hole wheel with the same lateral strength by using a four cross lacing pattern. Any thoughts?

Second, You get more lateral stiffness with fewer crosses. If you are not using discs, lace the front wheel 1 or 2 cross and the rear 3x drive side and 2x non drive. |
