317 + Eclipse vs. 3.1 UST Disc..........(3 posts)

317 + Eclipse vs. 3.1 UST Disc..........Fulton
Dec 9, 2002 12:03 PM
Building a disc wheelset for a friend. He wants to go tubeless, and we're weighing (no pun intended) the pro's and cons of each. Exactly how much weight does the complete Eclipse kit weigh, minus the sealant, per wheel?? I was thinking, that while the 3.1 maybe heavier, that extra weight would be in metal, therefore making the rim stiffer/stronger, not in a rubber rim strip like the 317 combo. Does this make sense?
thanks for any help.

I have never used the Eclipse system but i have owned Rolf Dolomite UST and the sealing system looks very similar to the Eclipse type set up. The Dolomites were very picky on what tires would seal on them and sometimes the front would hold air better than the rear with some brands and vice versa. I used every trick in the book (found online) with those wheels to get tubeless to work. I current use Crossmax UST wheels and it works beautifully, so I say forgo the hassles and costs of the Eclipse kit and get the x3.1 UST

You probably already know this but at Pricepoint.com they have a killer deal on Hayes Superlight Disc hubs. They are re-branded Hugi 240 Disc hubs for only $149/pair.
