Glueless patches on UST tires: one rider's experience.(1 post)

Glueless patches on UST tires: one rider's experience.singleminded

I'm wondering whether I've stumbled onto something good or just been stupid lucky...

I've been running a pair of UST Pythons, each patched with regular Park brand glueless/insta patchs. One hole is a typical medium-sized puncture in the middle of the tread area. It has been sealed with one of these patches for a couple months (though not a lot of off road miles).

A few days ago the other tire got a
b snake bite pinch flat
that is now sealed by two insta patches. The damage in the tread area may not have been leaking air but I used a patch there anyway.
b but
the tire was leaking big time from the part of the snake bite
b right next to the bead,
and this also sealed up nicely with the glueless patch.

I didn't use any special products or techniques -- just let the tire dry out after washing off the small bit of Slime / latex goop that had been in there. Then sand papered the area to be patched. Then squeezed and held the patch on firmly for a bit. Now, I guess, air pressure is helping to keep it on.

Anyone else had success or failure with insta patches? Just a hunch, but it looks like they'd work better on some brands than others -- the inner liner on Michelin USTs, for example, looks less accommodating.
