| Hugi hub damage - odd repair policy | MTBmoos3 Jun 10, 2003 8:13 PM | | Greetings Mountain Bikers,
I recently noticed some problem with my rear wheel and tracked it down to something related to the freewheel. I took it to my trusty LBS and they found that the freewheel hub body was partially cracked. The hubs are DT Onyx (Hugis?) disk hubs laced up to Mavic X317's on my newish Blur (yes, I love the new bike). I'm too chicken to do any drops bigger than about 18" and ride mostly XC. I'm roughly 200lbs with a pack.
Well, my LBS called Hugi and they said that they won't send out a replacement until they see the broken part. So, with a repair policy like that, how am I supposed to keep riding? Sounds like a complete lack of trust on the side of Hugi. My LBS took care of me and loaned me a Rhyno Lite on a Deore disc hub (feels about a pound heavier!).
I've had a set of S-works wheels for my old sturdy Rockhopper fully for over a year and beat the crap out of them. They took it in stride. These wheels are also built up with the Hugis, but non-disc. Anyone else out there had trouble with their Hugis or service/warranty?
Thanks,

Often the bikeshop will come to the party, they use their account to get a replacement part sent, when the broken piece is accepted their account gets credited for the part.
It's not lack of trust, sending out parts before inspection can only lead to the system being abused.

| Yep... | Steve-O Jun 11, 2003 11:28 AM | | Getting the part back prior to shipping the warranty replacement is common practice for not only bike companys but also many manufacturers.
I did a year of service at REI as a mechanic (www.rei.com for Dougal since there are no REI's in his neck of the woods). They had a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The abuse of this policy was amazing. Well worn hiking boots, sat-on Oakleys, and even sleeping bags that "weren't warm enough" all came back and were replaced with new. Some days the returned merchandise cut out 1/2 of the profits from store sales.
Hugi is simply trying to prevent themselves from "eating it" like REI does. |
| if it's broken... | fut Jun 11, 2003 4:58 PM | | what good is it going to do you to keep it? Do you want to keep riding it and maybe have it implode and cause damage to other parts or frame? get real..... |
