How do you true a wheel without sending it to the shop?WheelieMan

How do you true a wheel by yourself, at home without a truing stand? How do you know which nipples to turn?

You can use your brake pads for a quick and dirty reference to get it straight. If you do this too much, you WILL end up with a dished wheel, which is harder to correct. Dished means that while the rim may not be woblbing, it may no longer be centered in reference to the hub. This makes the bike wanna pull to one side.
