OK guy`s my first question on mtbreview, so be gentle:-)
Looking for disk specific wheelset. After reading several post`s and checking product listing`s, Ive got some ideas spinning round my head.
Me, 6'5" 292lbs. building a Rocky MTN. FLOW (hardtail) from frame up.
past success story, Sun mammoth fat, dtswiss 14/15 36spoke 2 cross rear W/ dt swiss hugi 240 hub (non disc).Handbuilt in 98 and still strong.
My Idea`s, white ind. CHUB Hub 40 or 48 hole. salsa gordo rims same drilling. 14 guage 3 cross
i like the sun hugiFR hub 36 hole, sun or mavic rims. and very open to chris king`s product. Never rode disc spec. wheels. but eager to give them a go. Besides the chi chi stuff i want on this bike. wheels or my most importante component. and the only weight reduction i`m concerned about, is my own body weight....Thanks guy`s

I dont know for sure, but I would think a normal 3/4x should hold you. Just get some beefier rims like sun rhynos or mavic 121 and some stouter hubs. Maybe straight guage spokes. I weigh 220 now and have not had any problems with DT rims and hope bulbs w 3x pattern.
Now if you plan on doing some freeriding or tree clearing, then you might want to go with your plan. I'm wondering what a 48 spoked wheel will weigh in at. Have you had bad luck with normal spoked wheels before?

Not being familiar with all the stresses on a wheelset, when adding disc brakes into the equation. i`m thinking extra beefy, So it`s a learning process. with limited choices. 36 hole has held great, and that had double butted spokes. I want to say 2 cross (to use shorter spokes)and looks to be fully threaded onto spoke. the only straight guage that i`ve had so far has been on factory wheels that came with the bike. and we know what kind of problems we have with them. I love trying to make a piece of crap rideable so you can make it home....
And last but not least i can only imagine how 48 spoke wheelset will tip the scales...D
