Rim choice for XC/XM front wheel 717, 717Disc, 719? (2 posts)
| Rim choice for XC/XM front wheel 717, 717Disc, 719? | robsetsfire Jan 9, 2004 7:50 AM | | I have a Turner XCE (4in frnt/ 4in rear), and I am going to build a new front wheel to replace my F519/XT disc front wheel. I have been happy with the 519(719), but since it's only the front I was considering one of the 717s.
What is your opinion for a single track/cross mt front wheel? I will do rocky technical sections, but no intentional drops and no dirt jumping.
I'm not racing, but it would be nice to have a lighter wheel. It will be built 3x with DB spokes to a CK Disc hub, tires are currently conti vertical 2.3s (really about a 2.1). I'm running discs so the 717disc is an option, but I have heard about the 317s failing.
I'm around 200lbs w/ gear so maybe it would be safer to stick with 519/719 and just deal with the little added weight? or go with the middle ground of the 717non-disc?

I do have plenty of 200 pounders out there with 317/717 disc. They're more of a problem in the rear for heavier riders. It's 65 grams difference. But it's on the front wheel where you won't notice the weight savings. |
