HELP!!, I bent my stock rims(6 posts)

HELP!!, I bent my stock rimsFluidrider
Jan 9, 2004 8:20 AM
Here's my problem, I have a set of cheap Mavic 137's on my Kona, and I ride a lot around campus, dropping stairs and whatnot, so of course I bent the back rim beyond repair. Can anyone suggest some tough rims/wheelsets that i can use to freeride with as well as hit the trails. I am looking for a good value, becuase I am the typical poor college student.

If you don't mind doing the rebuild yourself, there are some pretty cheap rims on the cambriabike hot deals page. Their normal prices are F?cking insane, but the hot deals stuff from time to time works out pretty well.

If you end up buying a new wheel... be sure to look for something with 36 spokes, at least.

Can anyone recommend some tires that will last through about 30 min of daily pavement riding, as well as keep my on my bike out on the trails?? I was thinkning i might go with panaracer fire XC pro.

The fire XC pro seems to have a good reputation for a reason. They also make a DH version with bigger knobs that I think handles lightly better on pavement... and it's a 2.3 instead of a 2.1.

Well, check with shiggy on actual dimensions, but it's a decent sized tire. And something a little bigger than stock might be beneficial to you on your way down all those stairs on campus and in the city.

I have a pair of Fire XC Pro's, and I like them on trails. But they roll slow and this is pretty noticeable on pavement. If I rode 30 minutes daily on roads I would not use these tires.
