I'm thinking of fitting Maxxis 2.35 tyres to my new 5 Spot, should I get Mavic 729's or 2004 Mavic 321's which are narrower than last years 321's?

Mavic played a little number game with us this year. 03 D321 is now 04 EX 729 Disc and the 03 F219 is now the 04 XM 321. I'm sure Mavic had their reasons for doing it. EX 729 is a full on downhill rim. The XM 321 is a inexpensive freeride rim. 729: welded seam, wide, 321: pinned seam, medium width. Both are strong rims but the 729 is real strong.
