Spoke replacements/repair?(2 posts)

Spoke replacements/repair?Cad

Do you replace all your spokes at intervals or just as they break or get bent? I've busted 2 in the last 2 weeks of riding on my rear tire and am wondering if an all spoke replacement is necessary. The 2 that broke were within 6 spokes of each other and snapped right at the bend near the hubs. I did not notice they were snapped until after the ride. My wheels are Mavic 317 Disc specific and are a little over 2 years old. I ride 4-6 times a month mainly cross country ~20 miles with some downhills. Nothing drastic! Thanks!
I'd say three strikes and your out...Bianchi4Me

If you lose ONE spoke, it could be a defect, a scratch, etc. When you lose two close together in time it's more likely to be metal fatigue catching up with you. I'd say if you have a third one pop in the near future I'd just relace the wheel.

Try to remember when they break which side of the wheel they were on. A lot of times one side will wear out first. If all your breaks are on the same side you might just try relacing that side.
