What would you suggest for Mavic X3.1 UST wheels?AlexSD

Hi,

A couple of weekends ago I folded my rear wheel (as it turned out it was a crappy Ritchey OCR Comp that came with my bike) and decided that it was a perfect chance to upgrade to a decent set of wheels and disk brakes at the same time. I've read a lot of reviews and shopped many bike stores in the San Diego area. Finally I chose to go with Mavic X3.1 UST tubeless wheelset and AVID disk brakes. For the past year I have been riding on Panaracer Fire XCPRO and fell in love with these tires. Since I now have an option to go tubeless, I would like to ask you opinion whether it makes sense to go that direction. And if it does, what would be a good tire to chose.

I do a lot of XC riding in a very dry climate (however, occasionally it rains here and then I hit some mud). I have 2001 Marin Nail Trail (hardtail) with Shimano XT components.

Guys at the store where I bought the wheels from tried to convince me to get Hutchinson Scorpion tires. But from what I've read, everyone hates them. Is there a better tire than that? Something comparable to XCPRO but in tubeless version?

Thank you for all your advice!
You're in luck.www.mtnpedaler.com

Panaracer make the Fire XC in a UST version. I also think Hutchinson Scorpions are some of the best tires I've ever used. The guys in your area probably know what works the best.
enjoy the best of both worlds.....KMan

Just mount your regular Fire XCPros to your tubeless rims. Add a bit of Stans sealant or make your own. Best to inflate with a C02, tubeless tires without all the added weigh. This is the rout I would go unless you want to run your tire psi really low, like in the 20's. If you still want to go with tubeless tire I would still add some latex solution for a prettmuch flat proof system.
