Looking for a new set of disc wheels. Any recommendations of good builder in the Los Angeles N. Orange County area?

John Ackley is down there in OC somewhere. This guy is a true master. He builds all of White Industries wheels. Tell him Paul from the Mountain Pedaler sent you. His email is, one8thtonman@earthlink.net

Is John Ackley on par w/ Dave Thomas & Mike Garcia ?

John's experience goes way back to a shop back east named The Yellow Jersey . I think Madison Wis., not sure though. A lot of famous roadies outta that shop. After he worked for Gary Fisher for a while he worked at Wheelsmith. At Wheelsmith he was production manager of the wheel building facility. That is where he honed his skills as a wheel builder. John told me,"I realized what a inadequate wheel builder I was when I got to Wheelsmith."

Wheel builders I recommend (besides myself of course) are Dave Thomas, Mike Garcia, Gravey, John Ackley. Those four because I know their work. There are plenty of other good ones out there like Joe Young. I've heard good things about him. I think he's out of Chitown. Old school, cool s**t.

One of the best wheel builders I ever knew was this guy named Floyd. He worked out of Steve Rex Cycles in Sacramento, Ca. A real character. Into tieing and soldering. Way old school, solid wheels.
Sometimes the best builders are tucked away in some little shop. Sometimes the best builder is YOU. How do you think I got started?
