Hey, I'm looking to build a GT frame/fork combo I just purchased. Do you know of any really cool deals on Ultegra kits? I need everything except for the headset, fork, and frame. Thanks. I'm getting old! I am going to ride a freaking road bike.

head on over to www.comparisingpricing.com they list the prices at tons of different online sellers, you'll save plenty of money of the MSRP

i'm building a road bike too. for ultegra kits, i looked at ebay, jensonusa and also gvhbikes.com. i was ready to order from jensonusa, but they didn't have some parts i needed, and supergo had a big sale in store and reduced their prices to mail order.the only things that ended up ultegra are my cassette, and derailleurs. i got a pair of dura ace shifters for $190 and a 105 brakset for $35 at chucksbikes(i figured that instead of spending $160 on ultegra sti and $50 on brakes, i'd rather skim on the brakes and upgrade the shifters). i got a stronglight crankset from thorusa.com for about $60.
good luck with building you bike(did you by any chance get a gt zr2.0 frameset from chucksbikes for $300?)
cheers

Chuck acutally did not have the blue and while frame, so he sold me that Lotto frame with a carbon fork for a measly $245 plus $20 shipping. I'm not a huge road fan, but I'm looking for a training bike that I can do some weekend road rides with some roadies I know. I want to land at about 21 lbs or so with decent componenty, but I only want to spend about a grand for the bike total. I'm thinking about going with mostly 105 with some Ultegra shifters and crank. Road stuff is expensive!

yeah, chuck is pretty cheap. the 105 brakeset i got was only $35, and the only difference between the current one's are the brake pads as far as i can tell. also, check out thorusa.com, you can get some stronglight stuff for hella cheap(like a headset and crankset), and people at roadbike review had good things to say about stronglight stuff. check out cambriabike for 105 derailleurs, i saw the rear der. there for $25. also, pricepoint has 3t forma bars for $20. you can save a bundle on shipping if you shop around and see if someone will price match.

I went to the thorusa site just now. What a freaking hack job! I used to develop web pages before the damn dot com crash, so I'm a little more then critical of bad site; but, geeze, that site looks like 3 stoned 12 years developed it. Okay. I'm over my critical space. Hey, the Stronglight cranks for cheap are no where to be found on the site. Do you just call them? Thanks.

yea, that website really needs someone's help. i got hella lost trying to find the crankset. go to the homepage, and then scroll down to "warehouse clearance" and click. then scroll to the stronglight stuff. first check out the stuff at stronglight.com, and make sure it's what you want. i got a set of the ironlight cranks($33, they require a 110mm square taper spindle), and a set of road rings(53/39T in black for $30), that is the last listing under "road chainrings". the rings are really sweet, they are anodized, and ramed and pinned, they should shift very well. Also, shipping is free with orders over $20. And be sure to check out the headsets if you need one, they're cheap too. find what you need, write down the product number, a brief descrition, and then call him or use his order page(it's not secure, so be careful). also, he sent a set of chainring bolts with my order, so i didn't need to buy any.
good luck...hope i helped
