but keep your eye on mtbr classifieds, and ask around some bike shops as they often know customers who have a few stashed away.

I picked up a Bendix coaster brake hub for $10, not perfect chrome but excellent working condition. Had it built with a Rhyno lite rim. If you intend to ride often or hard, try to find a 36 hole hub. The brake puts some pretty big forces on the wheel, almost like a disc brake. Limits rim choices, but Rhyno lites are cheap and common.

Prior to that I ran a Bendix kickback hub (two speed, but three different gear combos depending on color band-red,blue or yellow), coaster brake as a whole wheel for $75 shipped, thought it was a bit high at the time, but they do not show up anywhere near as often as the coaster only hubs. I disliked the shifting everytime I braked, so I sold it for what I payed and and got the above mentioned coaster brake.

I would suggest only getting a Bendix coaster brake, anything modern is probably junk. The Bendix is servicable by a good mechanic and should last forever.
