Aug 2, 2002 12:41 PM | | Ok...Almost 6 weeks and I finally give up and cancel the Chris King ISO Disc/MavicUST X3.1 wheelset. After 5 weeks, the King hubs arrive after having been backordered. Fine, I was told by others that waiting a month for a CK hub is typical when they aren't in stock. BUT the wheelsmith black DB spokes which had been earmarked as "committed" for my wheelset mysteriously became backordered at this time. So, I was offered a choice of silver spokes. No thanks, how long could it possibly take for black spokes? Well 8 days later, and they are UNAVAILABLE???
I really think I was simply being jerked around. I bet if I had accepted the spoke color change some other component for the build would also magically become UNAVAILABLE. I still can't fathom WHY is was SOOOO DIFFICULT to get double butted spokes in black, of ANY brand inside of 8 days? Maybe the sale price of $464 for the wheelset was to good to be true, and they didn't want to sell?
I am getting them built locally now for an extra $100.. I suggest before buying anything online, you ask your local bike shop to at least try to get close to the online price. The SERVICE and peace of mind is well worth the effort and few extra dollars.
