Performance Bike Coupons(15 posts)

I've shopped tons of times from JensonUSA and pricepoint without any problems whatsoever. Now I try Performance Bike, and my order is plagued with problems.

First, I made an order for equipment using a coupon code. I then proceeded to checkout, and the cart shows that I receive $50 in discounts. I receive an email confirmation showing that I do infact receive a discount and it shows how much I'm billed on my Credit card.

I had to email Performance for my order status after several days of nothing. So I check my credit card co. and they charge me an EXTRA $50 f.bucks. So I email and called company several times 4 a huge whopping run around and finally I'm told that my Coupon code has already been used or is invalid.

Okay, I have to admit, I'm pissed. Why did their website show that this is a valid coupon and continue to send me a receit confirmation showing what discounts I would get and what would be the exact charge on my credit card. If they had let me know early, I would have cancelled my order or revised it at least.

What is the point of having that final webpage says to click here to finalize for the specific price? And the confirmation showing what would be charged on my credit card and what is discounted?

not only that, I was charged for an item that is out of stock and was specifically told I would not be charged.

So, for those who want coupon codes. Let me know in this post, because I have access to thousands of copies (thanks to a bud in the magazine business :). Don't worry, these coupon codes are computed before printing on magazines so everyone who gets magazines will have fresh #'s.

Thanks for a horrible experience Performance Blah!

Hi,
The same thing happened to me. There are two things that you can do. You can accept the order, then send your email receipt along with you invoice to you credit card company, and dispute the difference. The credit card company will find in your favor because you only authorized performance to charge you a specific amount. If you tell the customer service reps at performance that you are going to this, they will most likely give you back the difference. Alternatively, you can refuse delivery of the order. They cannot charge you for an order that you do not accept. I think that they will do the right thing when you tell them what there options are. Just remind them that they only reason why you placed the order was to take advantage of the 20% off. You can give them the opportunity to make things right, or just cancel the order and never do business with them again. You can email me if you would like to hear how I faired.
Crap! Same thing to me too!DavidSoCal

I WILL NEVER shop at performance crap cycle again. They did the same to me, I threated to go to my credit card to dispute, the customer service guy just said, "do what you want". That's horrible service for you.

I've already gone to my credit card company. I have the mtn biking magazine in front of me with the coupon in there. If someone stole the coupon# in the store, i don't care, I bought the magazine and I have the coupon code. i authorized payment for the amount I saw on screen, received confirmation. then find out I was jacked like $60.

but, man, it's like going to your neighborhood bike shop, getting a receit for your costs and items purchased, then finding out later from the credit card company they charged you a bundle more.

and speak to a live person. so far, I've had few or no problems with them. I had a code show up as invalid, called the CS rep, and she asked me to send in the coupon. which I did, and got a refund quite promptly. they should make things straight.
I wouldn't mind a coupon code, if it's not too much trouble :)

Take it from an ex-Performance employee, the are a ROTTEN company. They are so big and pay their employees so little that no one there has any incentive (or even ability) to help out a customer. Technically, they'll return anything for any reason at any time, don't forget that, and don't forget you can return catalog items to the store to save shipping! If you want to take advantage of the only thing Perf is good at, exchange all your bike parts there when they wear out or even if you are bored with them. You'll probably need to return things anyway, because Performance came up with the following calculation: "Extra payroll spent on qualified employees is more expensive than accepting returns on poorly sold goods." In other words, they don't care if you need good advice, they'll just accept the return when you buy the wrong item and have to drag the product back to the store. Their "Club Performance" thing is a scam too, the company made over $500,000 from the $20 membership fees alone in the first summer they started it. That's pure profit for doing almost nothing at all! All the customer gets is $10 for every hundred they spend, and they have to spend it in the store. Perf. counts on the fact that many people lose or forget about their gift certificates or never spend more than $100. Plus they get all your personal information when you sign up and are able to track exactly what you buy and when. They not only sell that information to anyone who wants it, they even take your personal info off of your check if you write them one and sell that too! On top of all that, their prices are mediocre at best and when you take into account the discounts they get when purchasing, they are making obscene profits (not that I'm against profits, but $5 for a common bike tube that cost them .55?!?!). Don't get me started on their labor rates, as a mechanic, I had to explain to people that we did indeed charge $15 for a headset adjustment (45 seconds of work, less for threadless). Fact is, Perf sucks unless you take full advantage of their return/exchange policy.
So True, they suckwtf

I was trying to nail what was wrong with the company, but you hit it dead on. I had the coupon thing happen to me too, I sent them what they wanted to see, but they still refuse to honor the coupon.

The customer service are droids. I call, they so freak'in don't want to talk to you, can tell my their tone. They kept saying they need to talk with their superiors... I ask some compatiblity questions and they either don't know squat or they just don't want to tell you ... what's their incentive to?

I just refuse to shop there anymore, even if their prices are good. I just head to my bike shop around the corner, get all the questions answered and some.

as a general rule, when I deal with a company and coupon codes, I phoe my orders in, especially if your price matching along with it. I placed 2 orders with performance price matching and using the 20% coupon code with not a single problem with either transaction. I guess it's better to use the phone.
I know their customer service sucks, but what other compant will let you price match AND use a 20% coupon.

Panaracer Trailblasters $20 less 20% = $16ea
Race Race taper lock bottom bracket $45 less %20 = $36
plus a ton of other smaller items.

You fellas need to learn how to use the system. Pricematch + 20% Coupon + 2 day upgraded shipping = Dirt cheap parts at your door. The trick is that you need to be knowledgable about what you are buying.

Dont join the Team Performance unless you spend regularly.

Folks,

I too am fighting with Performance over a coupon I redeemed on their website and they later decided not to honor. The web order system will accept the coupon and discount the total amount to be charged to your credit card, but when they actually bill your card the charge will be for the non discounted amount! They will not contact you about this declined coupon, but rather will just ship the order out.

After about 3 phone calls to Customer service they will say the coupon was used by someone else on another order and that they can't honor the 20% discount. I've taken the issue up with my credit card company as an unauthorized charge and the credit card company has opened an investigation.

I've warned Performance that their choice is to either honor the coupon or my credit card company will reverse out the charge and they will lose a customer for life. Based on the responses I've been getting from Performance Customer Service they don't seem terribly concerned nor do they realize they've done something very wrong by charging a customers credit card more than was authorized.

These coupons smack of bait and switch if you ask me. What is to stop someone walking into a magazine store from writing down coupon numbers and using them? How would someone who buys that magazine know that the coupon has already been used? Performance needs to get their head out of their ass and admit the coupon system they are using doesn't work (or maybe it does?)

I'm still working with my credit card company to fix this. They gave me temporary credit in my favor, and they are siding with me. Should take a while, but the supervisor of another supervisor is doing the work. I'm still never shopping there again, and if I were you, stay the fook away.
