| Best disk wheelset, performance and price?? Please advise. | markmark13 Apr 7, 2003 11:45 AM | | Hey there,
Been out of the loop as far as gear goes and am looking to upgrade to disk brakes. I'm going with the Avid mechanicals but I can't decide which wheelset to get.
I ride primarily XC but with some downhill thrown in occasionally. I like to jump and ride really hard. I weigh 175lbs. Right now I ride Mavic 517s and they seem to do me fine. I wan't something similar at a decent price. Don't really want to go with a DH wheelset because of the weight.
Can you recommend something? Thanks to any replies!! |

Take a look at the stronger Mavic rims.. F219, etc. or Sun Singletraks.
I think XT disc hubs are great for price/performance.

of tacoing a rim I would stick with the 517/317. If you think you are
going to get more into hucking over time, get something stronger but
if your riding habits aren't changing, stick with what has worked. |

Please advise. | timwat Apr 10, 2003 5:58 AM | | I just got the sun ds2 with xt hubs for 180 at supergo. its normally 200, but if you buy the hayes hfx hydraulic brakes with it you get 20 off. My riding sounds the same except I weigh 185. The wheels are very light and are holding up well so far. Check out the reviews on this site. The tires are a little harder to get on and off but no big deal, just get some good tire levers.
