Good Deal?Arrwin

Hey guys,

I'm currently in search for my first real mountain bike. Looking for something that will last me a while. I'll probably be doing mostly street riding and would like to get into some trail riding. My search started being in the $300-500 range, but after visiting some shops that "range" has gotten to the $500-$750 range. I've become interested in a 2002 Cannondale Terra. The bike was tagged at $750 and I talked the guy down to $650. Do you think this is a good buy?

Any advice and/or comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry....here are the specs of the bikeArrwin

It's a heavy bike with pretty low grade components. However, it's only $650 bucks.

I bought a Santa Cruz Superlight for $750 used off MTBR. That thing was miles beyond this Cannondale. You might be able to find a great bargain on the classifieds.

Just my 2 cents.

Check out a Giant dealer. You can get a much better spec'd Rainier within your pricerange.

If disc brakes seem like overkill, check out the Novara Ponderosa at REI. That bike's a hell of a deal, way better spec'd than last year and a halfway-decent frame. Avid SD5 brakes, Ritchey cockpit, WTB wheels, Truvative crank, Deore shifters/fd, and an XT rear!! Plus, if you're coop member, you get like $65 back at the end of the year.

I agree for $650 you can do better. The components on that are very low grade. Check out a Giant or Jamis.

If you are going to do mostly street riding, you might not even want to go with a suspension fork. I would get a mtb designed for street use such as a Novartis Blur. Here is the link. http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?productId=47601529&storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&langId=-1

If you still looking, I'll sell you my 2003 F300. Great bike. I rode it 5 times, then got a deal on a FS. Never ridden since. I've owned it for 3 months. Check out the Cannondale website for specs.

I'll let it go for $450.
